Maltese can get into mischief really quickly. They love to take shoes, clothes, toilet paper, socks and anything else they can carry around. So watch them closely.

We recommend having lots of dog toys that don’t have filler cotton inside (like teddy bears). Also nylon bones are great. Balls that can be carried around and other dog approved toys are needed, especially when they are teething. Their gums will be bothering them a lot during this time, so chewing is a natural instinct. This happens when they are 2 months old and when they are 6-8 months old. So it is best to give them plenty of options to chew on, instead of your favorite shoes.

Toilet paper mess? YES! It happens! They find it so much fun to pull on the end and run with it! LOL!

Maltese are very friendly and love playing with people and other dogs. Watch out for people who “swipe” dogs, as your Maltese will probably go willingly.

This breed doesn’t require lots of daily exercise. As long as they can follow you around and get your attention and love, they are happy. A walk is great for them but make sure the distances aren’t too long, as they tire easily.
